Thiruvananthapuram revenue district school youth festival will adhere to green protocol from this year onwards. The authorities have made necessary regulations at the venues to ensure green protocol from this year. Plantain leaves and steel glasses will be used for supplying food and water and flex and plastic banners will be avoided completely.
Tourism minister Kadakampally Surendran will inaugurate the four-day festival at Cotton Hill Government Higher Secondary School at 4 pm on Wednesday.
An hour before the inauguration, a procession of 2,000 students from various schools across the city to declare the opening of the arts festival will be flagged off by city police commissioner Sparjan Kumar at the Manaveeyam Road.
Mayor V K Prasanth will preside over the event and other dignitaries like MP Shashi Tharoor, MLAs V S Siva Kumar, O Rajagopal, K Muraleedharan and IB Satheesh will also take part in the inaugural function.
Around 5,000 school students will participate in as much as 213 competition items at 14 venues, including Cotton Hill Girls Higher Secondary School, Carmel Girls Higher Secondary School, Shishuvihar UPS, Cotton Hill GLPS and Cotton Hill PPTTI.
“The competition items and others programmes are unchanged but from this year onwards an overall trophy will be awarded to the best performing sub-districts in the UP, HS and HSS sections,” said Syam Lal.
The concluding ceremony and award distribution will be inaugurated MP A Sambath at the Cotton Hill GHSS at 4.30pm on Saturday. Poet Murukan Kaattakkada, MLA VS Siva Kumar and actor Sudheer Karamana will be present.
